UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH II Sys:Celes releases on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC at 3 PM PT today, January 24, 2024! We are just as excited as you are about the first numbered sequel in the UNI series. With enhanced graphics, upgraded gameplay features like rollback netcode and robust replays, and new characters and moves for returning fighters, there’s plenty to experience for first-time and returning players. To help kickstart your time with UNI2, we highlight the new characters and the essential features the game uses to empower players to learn, grow, and feel confident in competition.

New Characters:

Checking out the additions to the roster is always an exciting time with a new game. UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH II Sys:Celes adds three characters at launch, each with completely different playstyles and personalities. With a roster already filled with so much variety, it is further enhanced by these great additions.

“Steel Guardian” Tsurugi:

Tsurugi is one of Hyde’s close friends from school. He is also a leading member of the vigilante group EFG. While the EFG typically doesn’t deal with the Night, the Final Night made an exception. Tsurugi’s upbeat attitude flows into his playstyle as he uses a giant shield-like weapon to unleash devastating blows that can crack the earth. Always staying true to his playful side, Tsurugi even uses his shield like a surfboard for added mobility.

“Twin Barrel Beauty” Kaguya

Kaguya is an Executor of the Licht Kreis who has traveled the world on missions for the Licht Kreis, defending others from the Void. Kaguya joins the fight in Japan alongside her best friend, Orie. Together, they will protect everyone they hold dear. Kaguya wields powerful dual pistols that can strike opponents with immense precision. Even though she is a sharpshooter, Kaguya is also extraordinarily acrobatic and can leap from side to side of the screen during her combos.

“Eternal Re-Birth” Kuon:

Kuon the Aeon is a Re-Birth, one of the most powerful beings in existence. He is Linne’s brother and lost himself to the Power of Sealing over 500 years ago. Kuon fights with levitating blades and raw energy. As terrifying as he is, Kuon moves gracefully. His attacks alternate between wide-flowing movements and short and impactful strikes.

Helpful Features:

There are TONS of helpful tools in UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH II Sys:Celes. Training mode, combo trials, and tutorials are filled to the brim with features that put the player in control of how they learn. Here are a few ways to take advantage of UNI2's support systems to become more comfortable with combos, knowledgeable with data, and ready to react to any situation.

Enhanced Replay Mechanics:

Replays got a huge upgrade in UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH II Sys:Celes. Players can now take control of the battle at any moment in the replay. This tool lets players experiment to learn what they could have done differently. This applies to all replays, not just your own. See a tough situation in a replay online? Just download it and learn from either player’s perspective!

You can also move frame by frame in replay mode. Get an in-depth understanding of how moves connect and their many attributes using this helpful mechanic.

Pause at Any Time During a Combo Trial:

Have you ever practiced a combo that starts and ends great, but is a bit more complicated to complete halfway through? UNI2 has a great feature that lets you pause mid-combo during a trial to let you take control during the sections that are giving you trouble. Take advantage of this feature to polish your combo’s problem areas and get everything to connect with confidence!

Mid-Combo Save States:

You can set recovery states at any point in your combo within training mode. Players can use this feature to return to a specific moment in a combo without setting it back up. Whether you’re on the ground or in the air, the combo save states can save a lot of time and help you focus on key areas you’re having trouble with.

Battle Speed Control:

Sometimes, all it takes to nail a combo is a change in pace. That’s where the Battle Speed control settings come in. Change the speed from 30%, 50%, 90%, and 100% to get more comfortable with the timing.

Understand Attack Properties:

Have you ever wanted to quickly know each attack’s active frames, the difference in recovery, and guard properties at a glance? Training mode has a helpful feature that details every attack.

You can also set training mode to display damage scaling for attacks and combos. This will let you know how effective a move is depending on when it is used in a combo.

That’s just a portion of what’s in store for players in UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH II Sys:Celes! We strongly recommend that new players dive into the tutorial at the start to learn about the game’s unique systems, like the GRD! Also, as a reminder, all players who purchase UNI2 before March 31, 2024, will receive the Season Pass for free! The Season Pass includes three additional fighters and instantly unlocks Kuon.
